A gentle winding circuit providing views over the Murray River and valley (with some steeper parts).

The trails starts at the upper car park at Island Pool Day use area, with a distance of 2 km. It takes 1 hour to complete and is maked with green hiker symbols on white triangle.

  1. The trail leaves the sputhern corner of the carpark, up a flight of steps and a steep rise through the jarrah forrest and wattles.
  2. At this point, the forrestbegins to thin a little and the balgas become more numerous. Continue along a more gentle slop up the valley side.
  3. Balgas begin to dominate as the trail passes between granite outcrops.
  4. You are now at the highest part of the trail. There is a seat where you can rest, begin the descent down a more gentle slop.
  5. At this point there is another seat. The track zig-zags for a short distance down a steeper part of the valley side and moves back into jarrah forest.
  6. As you cross the carpark, descend the steps to the road. Cross the roal and walk down the river side.
  7. The main picnic area is beside the river. There is a rope swing over the water and the small island is clearly visable. This is a popular swiming spot on warm days. From here, walk upstream past a series of small rapids. The riverside vegetation is dominated by flooded gums and blackbutts.
  8. Tony's bend campsite is about 100m from island pool. The area is shaded for most of the day by Jarraj and marri forest. Return along the riverside to Island Pool
